Former President Trump evaluates potential vice presidential candidates, including Marco Rubio, JD Vance, and Doug Burgum, ahead of the Republican National Convention

With the Republican National Convention looming in Milwaukee, speculation intensifies over who former President Donald Trump will select as his running mate. Sources close to Trump’s circle have identified three frontrunners: North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Ohio Senator JD Vance, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

In an interview on “The Brian Kilmeade Show on Fox Radio,” Trump provided insights into each contender. Discussing Senator Marco Rubio, Trump praised his recent rally performance in Miami, despite their past rivalry during the 2016 Republican primaries. Notably, both men reside in Florida, posing a constitutional challenge under the 12th Amendment, which prohibits presidential and vice-presidential candidates from the same state on the ticket. Trump acknowledged the complication but dismissed it as a deal-breaker.

Governor Doug Burgum, a staunch supporter of Trump, also garnered praise from the former president despite concerns over North Dakota’s stringent abortion laws. Trump highlighted Burgum’s alignment with his stance on states’ rights regarding abortion issues.

Senator JD Vance, known for his loyalty to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement, faced speculation over his beard possibly conflicting with Trump’s reported preference against facial hair. However, Trump dismissed these rumours, commending Vance’s appearance and likening him to a youthful Abraham Lincoln.

Trump hinted at a forthcoming decision, expressing a preference to announce his running mate during the convention to enhance excitement and unify the party ahead of the general election.
