The President removes Biden’s access to classified intelligence, escalating political tensions

In a dramatic move, President Donald Trump has revoked Joe Biden’s security clearance, barring the former president from accessing classified intelligence briefings. Announcing the decision on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared: “There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information.” He punctuated the statement with his infamous catchphrase from The Apprentice—“JOE, YOU’RE FIRED.”

Trump justified the decision by citing Biden’s own actions in 2021, when he denied Trump access to intelligence briefings, breaking a long-standing presidential tradition. At the time, Biden defended his move by arguing that Trump’s “erratic behaviour” made him a security risk, a position reinforced by his alleged role in inciting the Capitol riot.

The move is part of a broader security purge by Trump, who has already revoked security clearances for dozens of officials linked to Biden’s administration, including former top US military commander Mark Milley and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Milley is also under investigation by Trump’s new Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, while Fauci’s security detail has been stripped.

Trump further revoked clearances for two former CIA directors who, in 2020, signed a letter dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop scandal as a Russian disinformation campaign—claims later proven false.

With Trump aggressively reshaping the intelligence and security landscape, critics warn of escalating political retribution. Meanwhile, Biden’s camp has yet to respond, though his newly signed talent agency has been contacted for comment.
