The former congressman and Fox Business co-host, a key Trump ally, will lead the charge in rebuilding U.S. Infrastructure if confirmed

In a move that strengthens his ties with the conservative media landscape, Donald Trump has nominated Fox Business host Sean Duffy as his Secretary of Transportation. Duffy, a former congressman from Wisconsin, is best known for his role as a co-host on Fox Business’ The Bottom Line and as a cast member on The Real World: Boston in 1997. He is married to Rachel Campos-Duffy, a well-known Fox News personality.

Trump announced the nomination on Monday, praising Duffy’s qualifications and emphasizing his focus on revitalizing America’s infrastructure. According to Trump, Duffy’s priorities will include “Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness, and Beauty” in rebuilding the nation’s highways, tunnels, bridges, and airports. Additionally, Duffy will work to ensure the safety of the country’s ports and dams while safeguarding national security.

Duffy’s proposed changes extend to the aviation industry, with Trump pledging to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives for pilots and air traffic controllers, a controversial aspect of Trump’s platform.

The nomination comes just a week after Trump nominated another Fox News personality, Pete Hegseth, as Secretary of Defense. Trump’s nomination of Duffy also aligns with his strategy of tapping media figures with strong conservative profiles, reinforcing his stance on family values and safe travel.

Before his career at Fox, Duffy served as a district attorney in Ashland County, Wisconsin, and represented the state’s 7th Congressional District from 2011 to 2019. He left the House to pursue a career in media and began co-hosting The Bottom Line on Fox Business in 2023.

In a statement, Trump expressed admiration for Duffy’s dedication to family values, highlighting his role as the father of nine children and the husband of a prominent media figure. As Duffy steps down from Fox News Media to take on the potential cabinet role, the network announced that Dagen McDowell will continue co-hosting the show with rotating guests.

Trump’s nomination is likely to be scrutinized in the Senate, but Duffy’s deep connections to Trump’s base and his media prominence may give him a significant advantage as the confirmation process unfolds.
