Trump’s power play: Over 200 executive orders await on day one, sources reveal

Trump plans a historic first day with over 200 executive orders, including emergency declarations and policy reversals

As President-elect Donald Trump gears up for his second term, sources have revealed that he plans to sign an unprecedented number of executive orders on his first day in office. The bold move, which could see more than 200 orders signed, is set to take place in two major locations: the U.S. Capitol after his swearing-in ceremony and later at Capital One Arena, where the inaugural parade and festivities were relocated due to Washington’s frigid temperatures.

Advisers to Trump have confirmed that the incoming president is prepared to take swift and decisive action, with his team referring to these actions as part of an “omnibus” executive order, consolidating numerous directives into a single document to streamline the process. This tactic would allow Trump to sign multiple major actions at once, avoiding the need to address each document individually. At a MAGA rally on January 19, 2025, Trump promised supporters a flood of executive orders, claiming they would “set our country on the proper course.”

The sheer number of orders, and the broad range of policies they cover, is expected to send shockwaves through Washington. Top Trump officials, including incoming White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, briefed a select group of Republicans about the administration’s plans. While sources caution that these plans are still in flux, several key executive actions have already been outlined.

Among the proposed actions, Trump is expected to declare a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, continuing his tough stance on immigration. The president-elect also plans to rescind diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mandates introduced under President Biden’s administration and designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organisations. In a move to shift the country’s environmental trajectory, Trump intends to roll back regulations on electric vehicles and loosen offshore drilling restrictions on federal lands.

One of the most talked-about actions involves the relaunch of the controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy, which was previously reversed under Biden’s leadership. Trump’s team is also looking at declaring a national energy emergency, as well as issuing executive orders to end Green New Deal policies. The combination of these sweeping measures reflects Trump’s commitment to reversing many of the key initiatives enacted during Biden’s presidency.

As Trump prepares to take office, his supporters are eagerly anticipating the flurry of executive actions that will mark the beginning of his second term. The controversial measures reflect his intent to rapidly reshape the political landscape, consolidating his power from day one.

While the administration continues to finalise these plans, one thing is certain: Trump’s return to office will be marked by an aggressive and highly strategic use of executive power, setting the stage for a divisive and turbulent second term.
