The court viewed footage showing two cars, positioned at a parking payment booth, hastily breaking through the exit gates after witnessing a police van collide with Zameer’s BMW. This collision was part of a plainclothes officers’ attempt to apprehend Zameer, leading to a chaotic scene that unfolded under Nathan Phillips Square.

The trial heard from Constable Scharnil Pais, who, along with his partner, was pursuing Zameer’s vehicle when the deadly encounter occurred. Amidst the pursuit, the officers’ unmarked van forcefully hit the BMW at the parkade’s exit, a move that was met with a distressing reaction from Zameer’s family inside the car, including his pregnant wife and their toddler, unbeknownst to the officers at the time.
