The actor shares his enthusiasm after reading the first draft with Zendaya, praising the writers for their efforts.

Tom Holland has opened up about the forthcoming Spider-Man 4, revealing that he and co-star Zendaya have read the first draft of the script, though he admits it “needs work.” The 28-year-old actor, who has portrayed the iconic web-slinger in several Marvel films since 2017, expressed optimism regarding the project during a recent appearance on the Rich Roll Podcast.

Holland stated, “One of the things is that, with Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine. That machine has got to keep running.” He highlighted the challenge of fitting into the intricate timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), adding, “The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the people we have working on it now.”

While Holland praised the current draft, he noted that it requires further refinement. “We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job.” His enthusiasm was palpable as he described reading the script three weeks ago, saying it “really lit a fire in me.” Holland and Zendaya reportedly enjoyed the reading session, with Holland sharing, “We at times were bouncing around the living room, like, this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”

Holland first donned the Spider-Man suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and has since reprised his role in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), along with appearances in Captain America: Civil War (2016) and the two Avengers films. The most recent instalment ended with a poignant twist, as Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a spell that erased Peter Parker’s identity from the memories of those closest to him, including MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon).

As fans eagerly await the next chapter in Spider-Man’s journey, Holland’s insights suggest that the creative team is dedicated to delivering a compelling narrative that respects the franchise’s legacy.
