A 2006 mishap leads to an indefinite ban for the Hollywood star from acquiring any more Bugatti vehicles

In an unexpected turn of events, Tom Cruise, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in blockbusters like “Mission Impossible” and “The Last Samurai,” finds himself permanently barred from purchasing vehicles from Bugatti, one of the most prestigious car manufacturers in the world. This decision stems from an incident in 2006, highlighting how even celebrities are not immune to the stringent policies of luxury brands.

Back in 2006, during the premiere of “Mission Impossible 3,” Cruise encountered difficulty opening the passenger side door of his Bugatti Veyron. This seemingly minor blunder led to a permanent purchasing ban by Bugatti, reflecting the brand’s rigorous standards for its clientele. Bugatti, a French company celebrated for producing some of the fastest cars globally, is notorious for its strict regulations, including a $21,000 annual maintenance fee and a requirement to change tyres every 10,000 miles. Despite these cars’ hefty price tags, ranging from $3 million to $12.5 million, the upkeep can be cumbersome.

However, the reason for Cruise’s ban is unrelated to these maintenance issues. Instead, the mishap at the “Mission Impossible 3” premiere, involving a struggle with a car door, was deemed too embarrassing for the brand. This incident placed Cruise on a list of individuals indefinitely banned from purchasing Bugatti vehicles, a list that includes names like Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, Flo Rida, Simon Cowell, and 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button.

Despite this setback, Cruise’s garage remains far from empty. Over the years, he has amassed a collection of luxury vehicles, including BMWs, Chevrolets, Mustangs, and, notably, his infamous Bugatti Veyron. The ban, while significant, has not deterred Cruise from indulging in his passion for high-end cars.

This incident serves as a reminder of the unique challenges and quirks that come with celebrity status. Even as they navigate the perks and privileges of fame and wealth, figures like Cruise are subject to the policies and decisions of brands and companies, underscoring the often-unseen boundaries that exist within the world of luxury and exclusivity.
