Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas end their brief romance, agreeing they’re “better off as friends
Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas have reportedly ended their relationship just three months after going public, deciding that they are “better off as friends” following a whirlwind few months of dating.
The Top Gun actor, 63, and the Blonde star, 37, first sparked romance rumours in February when they were spotted dining together in London on Valentine’s Day. Although sources initially described their meeting as professional, the pair were soon seen travelling, holidaying and attending events together, prompting speculation that friendship had turned into something more.
The relationship became public in the spring when Cruise and de Armas were photographed hand in hand during a stroll through Woodstock, Vermont, accompanied by friends. Their relaxed display of affection appeared to confirm what fans had long suspected — that Hollywood had a new power couple.
But after just a few months, reports suggest the relationship has quietly run its course. A source told The Sun: “They just realised they weren’t going to go the distance and that they are better off as mates. The spark had gone between them, but they still love each other’s company, and they’ve both been really adult about it.”

Despite the split, the source added that the pair remain on good terms and even plan to continue working together. “She’s already been cast in his next film,” the insider revealed, suggesting their professional partnership will continue despite the personal break-up.
Cruise, known for keeping his private life fiercely guarded, had reportedly tried to keep the romance out of the spotlight. But the pair were seen together several times over the summer — travelling on his private helicopter, attending an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium, and enjoying a luxury yacht holiday in Menorca, Spain. Photographs from the trip showed the couple looking close and relaxed as they soaked up the sun.
According to insiders, Cruise had been showering de Armas with gifts throughout their short-lived relationship. “It started with her favourite flowers and books he thought she’d like because she’s an avid reader,” one source told Mail Online. “As they got to know each other, the gifts became more personal — jewellery, designer clothes, and more.”
Their relationship was said to have deepened over the summer, with Cruise giving Ana “the freedom to travel anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice” thanks to his private jet and helicopter access. But despite the lavish gestures, those close to the pair insist their decision to part ways was mutual and amicable.
“They care about each other and will stay in touch,” another source added. “There’s no drama — it just fizzled out naturally.”
The split marks another short chapter in Cruise’s famously guarded romantic history. The actor was previously married to Nicole Kidman, with whom he shares two adopted children. Their high-profile marriage ended in 2001, after which Kidman went on to marry country singer Keith Urban — though the couple recently announced their own separation after 19 years.
Cruise has since been linked to several women, including Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova, but none of his relationships in recent years have lasted long.
For Ana de Armas, the end of her brief romance with Cruise follows a series of high-profile relationships, including her much-publicised partnership with Ben Affleck. The Cuban-Spanish actress, who has since earned acclaim for her performances in Knives Out and Blonde, is reportedly focusing on upcoming film projects.
Though fans were intrigued by the unexpected pairing, it appears both actors have chosen to prioritise their careers over romance for now. As one insider summed it up: “They had fun while it lasted — but it wasn’t meant to be.
