Tom Cruise reveals no plans to retire, aims to keep making movies for decades and mentors rising stars.
Tom Cruise has made an extraordinary promise: he will keep making movies well into his 100s. The Hollywood legend, known for his iconic roles in action, drama, and comedy, told The Hollywood Reporter he has no plans to ever retire. “I will never stop,” Cruise said emphatically, adding that his previous prediction of acting into his 80s was an understatement. “Actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.”
The star, who has built his career on adrenaline-fuelled stunts and memorable characters, reflected on his passion for filmmaking as an ongoing journey. “There’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures that we’ve worked in,” Cruise said. “Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking — it’s been exceptional. I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make and I love it. I love just making movies.”
Cruise’s latest film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, is officially the last time he will portray Ethan Hunt, ending a franchise that has defined much of his career. “It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing,” he joked, acknowledging the emotional closure of the series. However, fans won’t have to wait long for more Tom Cruise, as he confirmed he will reprise his role in the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick sequel, his third outing in that franchise.

Jordan, that film ‘Sinners’ is amazing,” Cruise told Entertainment Tonight. “We’re going to make a movie together.” This signals a new chapter for Cruise, blending veteran experience with fresh talent.
The actor also emphasised his commitment to nurturing the next generation of performers. He has taken rising stars like Glen Powell under his wing, aiming to help them thrive in a competitive industry. “I think there are so many other talented actors out there that I want to see crush it,” he said, highlighting his enthusiasm for supporting new voices in film.
Despite his eagerness to continue acting, Cruise acknowledged that some of his signature high-risk stunts might be behind him. He joked that while he’ll keep making movies, he won’t be hanging off biplanes in his centenarian years.
Summer blockbusters this year also caught his attention, with Cruise pointing to films like Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, and F1 with Brad Pitt as ones to watch. His appreciation for cinema extends beyond his own projects, demonstrating his deep connection to the industry.
From a teen heartthrob in the 1980s to a global action star and producer, Tom Cruise’s career has spanned nearly five decades. His determination to keep working well past the typical retirement age is a testament to his passion and dedication to the craft.
Whether performing death-defying stunts or mentoring the next generation, Cruise shows no signs of slowing down. Fans can expect to see this legendary actor on screen for many more years to come — perhaps even into his second century.
