Amazon’s the pickup drops its adrenaline-fuelled first trailer, starring Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson as armoured truck drivers caught in a deadly ambush led by Keke Palmer.

Amazon MGM Studios just dropped the first trailer for The Pickup, and it’s an all-out explosion of chaos, crime, and comedy. Starring Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson, this heist-meets-action caper promises to deliver a high-octane thrill ride when it lands on Prime Video on 6 August.

Directed by Tim Story—whose credits include Ride Along, The Blackening, and Barbershop—The Pickup pits two wildly mismatched armoured truck drivers against a criminal operation that clearly skipped the ‘take it easy’ memo.

Murphy plays Russell, a seasoned, no-nonsense driver with a suspiciously calm exterior, while Davidson steps into the shoes of Travis, a jittery loudmouth who probably shouldn’t be trusted with a wheel, let alone millions in cash. But things get very real, very fast when their routine run is hijacked by a crew of ruthless criminals.

Leading the heist? None other than Keke Palmer, who turns in what already looks like a show-stealing performance as Zoe—a mastermind with eyes on something far bigger than just what’s inside the truck. What follows is a chaotic spiral of bullets, betrayals, and plenty of biting one-liners as the oddball duo fight to survive a day that won’t stop trying to kill them.

And that’s just what the trailer teases.

Penned by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, The Pickup also boasts a stacked supporting cast. Eva Longoria adds a touch of elegance and danger, while NFL legend Marshawn Lynch shows up ready to rumble. Wrestling fans will spot WWE star Roman Reigns (Joe Anoa’i), and there’s also room for scene-stealers like Andrew Dice Clay and Ismael Cruz Córdova.

If the trailer’s anything to go by, expect edge-of-your-seat action and ridiculous humour in equal measure. One moment you’ve got Murphy pulling off an unexpected punchline in the middle of a shootout, the next you’re watching Davidson panic-sprint through a flaming warehouse with a bag of cash.

Of course, the film’s real magic lies in its unlikely trio. Murphy, a veteran of both slick comedies and buddy cop classics, pairs surprisingly well with Davidson’s offbeat Gen Z energy. Add Palmer’s commanding screen presence, and you’ve got a triangle of tension, hilarity, and danger that looks far too unstable to survive… but too compelling to look away from.

Produced by John Davis, John Fox, Eddie Murphy himself, Tim Story, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster, The Pickup marks another bold swing from Amazon MGM as it continues building a library of star-powered streaming blockbusters.

Whether you’re in it for Murphy’s timing, Davidson’s chaos, or Palmer’s calculated ruthlessness, The Pickup looks like it’s gearing up to deliver pure, unpredictable fun—with plenty of explosions thrown in for good measure.
