Warner Bros. Pushes The Batman Part II to October 2027, causing frustration among fans. James Gunn explains the reason behind the delay.

It’s official: The Batman Part II will not hit theaters in 2026 as originally planned. Warner Bros. confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel has been delayed once again, this time moving from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027. This marks the second significant delay for the film, as it was initially scheduled for a 2025 release before the Hollywood strikes pushed it back.

Fans of Robert Pattinson’s Batman were already facing a long wait, but this new announcement means that there will be a staggering five-and-a-half-year gap between The Batman and its sequel. For those eagerly awaiting the continuation of Matt Reeves’ “Epic Crime Saga,” this delay is a tough pill to swallow.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn spoke out on the matter, offering clarity on the delay. According to Gunn, the holdup is due to a lack of a completed script. “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,” Gunn explained. He further mentioned that once the script is finished, the typical process of pre-production, shooting, and post-production takes roughly two years for films of this scale.

Filmmaker Matt Reeves, who directed The Batman, previously discussed the pace of the film’s development. In a recent conversation with Catwoman actor Zoë Kravitz, Reeves revealed that writing for Part II was proceeding slowly but carefully. He compared the creative process to being in a dark room, searching for the right connections in the dark until something clicks. Reeves’ meticulous approach to filmmaking has always been part of his charm, but fans are feeling the long wait.

While fans hope for the best, the delay of The Batman Part II raises concerns about whether the excitement will hold for another two and a half years. With other notable movies slated for 2027, such as Avengers: Secret Wars and Frozen III, it remains to be seen if the film’s delay will diminish its impact on moviegoers.

Interestingly, The Penguin season 2 is already in development and could potentially be released before the Batman sequel. For those holding on to hope for more of Reeves’ Gotham, The Batman Part II may seem far off, but the wait will likely be worth it once it finally arrives.
