New Tesla Model Y owner encounters suspension issues, faces extensive repairs and hefty bill
In a surprising turn of events, a Tesla owner from Cambridge, England, faced a major setback just one day after purchasing a brand-new 2023 Tesla Model Y. Shreyansh Jain, an electronics engineer, had used a significant portion of his family’s savings to buy the car in cash, expecting a smooth and enjoyable ownership experience.
However, his excitement was short-lived as, after only 115 miles, Jain experienced a loss of steering control while making a slow turn into a neighborhood with his wife and 3-year-old daughter in the car. The front-right suspension had collapsed, causing parts of the car to scrape the road loudly.
The subsequent repairs proved to be extensive, taking nearly 40 hours to complete. The suspension had to be rebuilt, and components such as the steering column needed replacement, accumulating a repair bill exceeding $14,000. According to the repair estimate, Tesla refused to cover the costs, attributing the incident to ‘prior’ suspension damage.
Jain expressed concerns about the potential danger if the incident had occurred on a high-speed highway. The situation adds to recent controversies surrounding Tesla, including a recall of over two million cars due to a safety flaw in the Autopilot system. A US auto-safety regulator emphasized the need for immediate fixes to prevent misuse of the driver assistance function.
