Terrified mum’s desperate struggle to save son from being sucked out of plane

A terrified mother heroically clung to her teenage son as he teetered on the edge of being sucked out of a gaping hole in an Alaska Airlines plane, an incident that forced the aircraft into an emergency landing. The nerve-wracking incident unfolded at 16,000 feet when the fuselage of the Boeing 737 Max blew out, unleashing chaos as seats and belongings were violently sucked out of the aircraft.

In response to this harrowing event, the US has taken the unprecedented step of grounding all Boeing 737 Max jets. Passengers on the flight were left shaken, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. A courageous passenger, identified only as Faye, revealed that her 15-year-old son, a high school student, narrowly escaped being sucked out of the plane.

Faye, a 50-year-old lawyer, recounted the terrifying moment when the fuselage exploded, likening the sound to a bomb. With sheer determination and adrenaline coursing through her veins, she reached over to grasp her son as his seat was pulled towards the breach, causing his shirt and jacket to be torn away.

Describing the intense experience, Faye stated, “I was probably as filled with adrenaline as I’ve ever been in my life.” Unbeknownst to her at the time, her son’s upper-body clothing had been torn off in the struggle.

As the cabin rapidly depressurized, oxygen masks descended, and a compassionate stranger seated next to Faye assisted in securing the masks on both mother and son. Faye held onto her son tightly, repeatedly reassuring him that everything would be okay.

In the midst of chaos, Faye expressed concerns that another panel might dislodge, prompting her to shout warnings to her neighbour. However, her attempts were futile due to the deafening noise. It was only when she noticed her son’s bag on the floor that she realised the immediate danger had subsided.

Faye, still grappling with the shock of the incident, summoned a flight attendant using the call button. To her surprise, the attendant appeared unaware of the breach in the plane. The mother and son were subsequently relocated to different seats, and it became evident that some passengers were oblivious to the situation until Faye informed them.

Reflecting on the terrifying experience, Faye revealed, “When the plug blew out, I was in go mode. Of course, I was terrified. But I’m a mother. And that terror doesn’t occur to you when you’re looking at your child next to a hole in a plane.” Expressing her deep concern for the well-being of fellow passengers, she admitted to praying, despite not being a religious person.

The aircraft managed to land safely about 15 minutes after the blowout, and emergency responders attended to Faye’s son, advising them to gather their belongings and disembark. Both mother and son sustained injuries but did not require immediate medical attention. Faye acknowledged losing composure at certain moments, particularly when faced with the pilot and her former seatmate. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of air travel and the resilience of a mother’s protective instincts.
