Lance Corporal Adam Milton, over three times the drink-drive limit, crashed into Wayne Neville at over 100mph, killing them both.

Lance Corporal Adam Milton was more than three times the drink-drive limit when he crashed his Volkswagen Passat head-on into another car at over 100mph, killing himself and father-of-two Wayne Neville.

The inquest at Shropshire Coroners Court heard that Milton, 27, had been drinking heavily with fellow soldier Mervin Young before getting behind the wheel on 6 September 2024. His blood alcohol level was 260mg per 100ml—over three times the legal limit.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing Milton’s car driving “erratically” and overtaking dangerously before the crash on the A53 in Market Drayton. Forensic analysis confirmed he had made no attempt to brake or avoid impact, while Neville, 42, had attempted to stop. The impact speed was estimated between 102-104mph on a 60mph road.

Neville’s wife, Kate, paid tribute to her “amazing and caring” husband, saying, “Our hearts are broken… he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.”

Senior coroner John Ellery ruled both men died in a road traffic collision, concluding that Milton’s reckless actions were wholly responsible for the tragedy.
