Man, 30s, found fatally stabbed inside Leicester home; six men arrested as police investigate

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead inside a house in Leicester. Six people are now in custody.

Emergency services were called to Sawley Street, in the east of the city, at around 1:37am on Sunday, after ambulance crews discovered a man in his thirties suffering from a stab wound. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while five other men, aged between 24 and 53, have been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender, Leicestershire Police confirmed.

Detective Chief Inspector Tim Lindley, who is leading the investigation, said the early evidence suggested the attack took place inside the property on Sawley Street.

“We believe the incident happened inside the address in Sawley Street in the early hours of this morning, and sadly a man has died as a result,” he said.

“The victim and the man currently in custody for murder are known to each other, and our priority at this time is to establish exactly what has occurred.”

The area was sealed off for most of Sunday as forensic teams combed the scene for evidence and officers reviewed nearby CCTV footage. Uniformed police guarded the cordon, which stretched across the narrow street lined with small shops and terraced homes.

By evening, the police confirmed the cordon had been lifted, though officers remained in the area to reassure residents and carry out further enquiries.

The discovery of the body has left the usually quiet Leicester neighbourhood shocked and uneasy. Residents awoke to the sound of sirens and flashing blue lights filling the early-morning darkness.

One local shopkeeper, who asked not to be named, said:

“There were police everywhere. They closed the road off for hours, and no one knew what was happening. It’s frightening – you don’t expect something like this just down your street.”

Another resident added:

“I’ve lived here for more than ten years and never seen anything like it. We woke up to find police tape across the street and officers going door to door.”

DCI Lindley said detectives were working quickly to piece together the events leading up to the killing and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“We are examining CCTV from the area and continuing house-to-house enquiries,” he said. “If you were in or around Sawley Street overnight and saw or heard anything unusual, no matter how small it may seem, please contact us.”

Police said all six suspects remain in custody and are being questioned by detectives.

The force has not yet named the victim, and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out in the coming days to confirm the cause of death.

Leicestershire Police also urged anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the attack to get in touch via their Major Crime Unit.

The killing marks one of several recent violent incidents under investigation in the East Midlands, but detectives stressed there is no wider threat to the public.

DCI Lindley added:

“This appears to be an isolated incident involving individuals known to one another. We’re doing everything we can to get to the truth and ensure justice for the victim and his family.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 44 of 5 October, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
