A woman in Wrexham, north Wales, endured a nightmarish dog attack that resulted in gruesome injuries, as the owners callously fled the scene. Sarah Blaylock, 56, was walking her springer spaniel, Wilf, near Rossett Business Park when she encountered two dogs, Escobar and Cali, owned by Nicola and Bobby Ouzman.

The Ouzmans, on the lookout for an isolated area for their dogs, unexpectedly crossed paths with Blaylock. In the horrifying turn of events, Escobar, a pitbull known as “Esco,” attacked Wilf, while Cali, a black Cane Corso breed, bit Mrs. Blaylock’s left leg multiple times. Instead of taking responsibility, the Ouzmans fled with their aggressive dogs, leaving Blaylock with severe injuries.

A Good Samaritan discovered the injured victim and assisted her, guiding her to Lavister as they sought help from the Nag’s Head pub. Blaylock’s husband, Mike, subsequently rushed her to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where she underwent multiple treatments over a period of ten weeks to heal the wounds.

The Ouzmans faced legal consequences for their reckless actions, being convicted of being in charge of dangerously out-of-control dogs causing injury. Shockingly, despite the severity of the attack, they received suspended jail sentences. The court heard that Escobar had previously been subject to a destruction order, mandating the use of a muzzle, after an earlier incident.

The judge, His Honour Rhys Rowlands, condemned the Ouzmans for their callous disregard for Blaylock’s welfare, stating, “You were more concerned with trying to escape with your dogs.” In a controversial decision, both defendants were handed an 18-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, and were ordered to wear electronic tags over the Christmas period. Additionally, they were banned from owning a dog for ten years and required to pay £2,500 in compensation to their victim.

The shocking incident highlights the need for responsible pet ownership and raises questions about the adequacy of penalties for such dangerous behavior. As the victim copes with physical and emotional scars, the case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of holding owners accountable for the actions of their pets.
