Selena Gomez reflects on her relationship with Benny Blanco, revealing why she wasn’t ready for his love 10 years ago
Selena Gomez, 32, recently shared candid insights into her relationship with producer Benny Blanco, revealing why she wasn’t ready to accept his “unconditional love” when they first met over a decade ago. In a joint interview with Blanco, the couple opened up about their relationship dynamics and the factors that ultimately brought them together.
Gomez, who had been single for five years before starting her relationship with Blanco in 2023, admitted that she didn’t have “life figured out” when they initially crossed paths in 2013. While discussing her perspective on love and relationships, she explained that it was the way Blanco treated her that eventually won her over. “My perspective on it, in a simplistic way, is that I actually feel valued. I feel seen. I feel respected. And I think that’s all I’ve ever really wanted,” she shared in the Interview Magazine feature.

Blanco, on the other hand, reflected on the importance of being attentive and supportive in a relationship. He emphasised the value of finding a partner who’s also a best friend. “Find your best friend and don’t settle,” he advised. “Happy wife, happy life.”
The couple, who met in 2013 through Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey, began dating in 2023, and by December 2024, they were engaged. Their connection has since sparked not only personal growth but also professional collaboration. Earlier this year, the pair announced their musical project, I Said I Love You First, with the first song, “Scared of Loving You,” already available to stream. The album is set for release on March 21, 2025.
Their story is a testament to timing and patience in relationships, showing that sometimes, love is about growth, self-awareness, and finding the right person at the right time.
