The actress opens up about teaching her 10-year-old daughter Rose the impact of ghosting on others.
Scarlett Johansson, Hollywood star and mother of two, recently shared a heartfelt lesson on dating with her 10-year-old daughter, Rose. During an appearance on Today with Jenna and Friends on January 21, the Avengers actress opened up about an incident where her daughter unknowingly hurt a young boy by “ghosting” him.
Johansson explained that the conversation began after discovering that Rose had abruptly stopped talking to a boy who had feelings for her. “I just had this conversation with my 10-year-old daughter about ghosting because there was this little boy that liked her, and then she wasn’t feeling the same,” the 40-year-old actress revealed. “She just stopped talking to him straight up, and he felt terrible. That’s when I introduced her to the concept of ghosting.”
The Black Widow star admitted that she has ghosted people in the past, attributing it to her dislike of confrontation. However, she acknowledged the emotional toll it takes on those left behind. “It really makes the other person feel terrible about themselves. It kind of sets them on this spiral,” Johansson said, reflecting on her own experiences.
The actress added that she would much rather be dumped than ghosted, as the lack of closure can be devastating. “Honestly, being ghosted is awful because you’re just left with no answers at all. You start thinking, ‘Oh my God, did I do something?’ It haunts you for years.”
Johansson shares her daughter Rose with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac and has a three-year-old son, Cosmo, with her current husband, comedian Colin Jost. As a mother of two, she believes these life lessons are crucial, even at a young age.
Johansson’s comments resonated with many viewers, as ghosting has become a common issue in modern relationships. Her candid approach to discussing respect and communication in dating, even with her young daughter, highlights her thoughtful parenting style.
The actress continues to balance her Hollywood career and family life, bringing wisdom and humour to her roles both on and off-screen. Johansson’s willingness to address difficult topics with her children sets an example of how open communication can shape healthier relationships in the future.
