Gucci’s new creative era: Ancora by Sabato De Sarno captivates the fashion world

In a stunning showcase of fashion innovation and homage to roots, Sabato De Sarno heralds a new era for Gucci with his debut collection, Ancora. This move marks a significant pivot back to the brand’s core values of heritage and luxury, sparking interest and anticipation in the fashion industry and among Gucci enthusiasts worldwide. The April 2024 issue of MEGA Magazine delves deep into the implications of De Sarno’s creative leadership and the future direction of the iconic Italian fashion house.

Ancora, meaning “again” in Italian, symbolizes a powerful rebirth under De Sarno’s guidance. The Spring/Summer 2024 Gucci show, set against the backdrop of Mina’s iconic 1978 track “Ancora,” transformed into a modern anthem by record producer Mark Ronson, emphasized the brand’s rich historical narrative and De Sarno’s personal connection to the theme of rediscovery and passion.

De Sarno’s debut collection represents a clear departure from the audacious and eclectic approach of his predecessor, Alessandro Michele. Focusing on modern utility, everyday elegance, and a subdued yet confident allure, the collection reintroduces Gucci to the ideals that originally propelled it to fame. Highlighted by the deep, rich oxblood colour palette, the pieces speak to a free, bold, and sensually confident woman, drawing inspiration from Guccio Gucci’s initial inspirations from his time at London’s Savoy Hotel.

The collection’s emphasis on structure and colour, alongside luxury materials like cashmere and silk, and attention to detail in crystal fringe skirts and silk dresses, showcases a refined yet accessible aesthetic. Signature accessories, including the Signoria slingback pumps, Horsebit platform loafers, and Jackie handbags, all in the Gucci Rosso Ancora hue, underscore the brand’s renewed focus on its heritage.

Following a period of performance fluctuations, notably in critical markets such as China in 2020, De Sarno’s vision for Gucci stands as a beacon of rejuvenation. His approach aims to rekindle the brand’s connection with its legacy of luxury, steering Gucci towards a future that respects its past while embracing modernity.
