The home of Rolls Royce will expand for bespoke projects and all-electric production readiness.

Rolls-Royce has announced a groundbreaking £300 million investment to significantly expand its Goodwood factory, marking the largest capital injection since the plant’s opening in 2003. This bold move will accommodate the growing demand for bespoke personalisation and exclusive coachbuilding services, while also preparing the facility for an all-electric future.

“This represents our most substantial financial commitment to Goodwood since its opening and a significant vote of confidence in the Rolls-Royce marque,” said CEO Chris Brownbridge. The former BMW executive, who succeeded Torsten Müller-Ötvös in 2023, highlighted the need to expand a facility that has seen an eightfold staff increase over 20 years.

When it opened, the Goodwood plant employed 300 people to produce a single car daily. Today, it boasts a workforce of 2,500, crafting up to 28 cars a day. However, the expansion is not aimed at ramping up production. Instead, the focus lies on enhancing the firm’s ability to offer limitless customisation through its renowned Bespoke service and the ultra-exclusive Coachbuild programme, which accepts standalone commissions for one-of-a-kind creations.

The investment aligns with Rolls-Royce’s vision to transition to an all-electric lineup, starting with the Spectre, its first EV, already making waves in the luxury market. The revamped Goodwood facility will not only bolster craftsmanship but also ensure the brand’s long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability.

This redevelopment secures Rolls-Royce’s future in the UK, reinforcing its reputation as a global leader in luxury automotive engineering.
