Business magnate’s resort in Mallorca offers a secret paradise with pristine waters, ideal for family getaways

Business mogul Sir Richard Branson has revealed one of his most cherished vacation spots, a little-known beach in Spain, as “one of the most magical places in the world.” Among his many travel experiences, including owning an airline and a private island, Branson holds a special place in his heart for Son Bunyola beach in Mallorca. So profound is his affection for this location that he has established a selection of luxury villas overlooking the beach as part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio.

The Son Bunyola resort, which began welcoming guests in June of the previous year, is perched atop a cliff, offering breathtaking views of Mallorca’s northwestern coast. Nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tramuntana Mountains, the resort epitomizes the perfect blend of natural beauty and luxury. Branson, who has been visiting Mallorca since his youth, describes the transformation of Son Bunyola villas into a Virgin property as a “passion project.”

The resort’s centrepiece is a 16th-century finca, a Spanish country estate that Branson dreamt of converting into a hotel for over two decades. With perseverance, he received the necessary permissions and successfully opened the hotel, which has been met with acclaim. Beyond serving as a sunny retreat, Branson envisions the resort as an all-year destination, offering activities like hiking and cycling amidst Mallorca’s scenic landscapes.

The hotel’s prime asset is undoubtedly its panoramic sea views, complemented by one of the world’s most exceptional beaches, according to Branson. Son Bunyola boasts crystal-clear waters and embodies the essence of Mallorcan charm. Its secluded location within the Tramuntana Mountains offers guests an escape to tranquillity, far from the bustle of everyday life.

For families, Son Bunyola promises an idyllic beach experience, with a pebble beach just a short walk from the resort. The clear, shallow waters are perfect for children, and the resort can arrange for kayaking or yachting excursions for those seeking adventure.

Apart from Son Bunyola, Spain houses several hidden beach gems worth exploring. From the warm waters and beach bar of Torimibia bay in Llanes, Asturias, to the exotic-looking beaches of Formentera, a Balearic island renowned for its Caribbean-like appeal, Spain offers a myriad of secret spots for beach lovers.

As Europe continues to enchant tourists with its diverse destinations, Son Bunyola and other hidden Spanish beaches stand out as must-visit locations for those seeking a unique and magical beach experience.
