The rapper and actress attended the prestigious event with partner Eboni Nichols, both wearing exquisite Thom Browne designs

Queen Latifah made her highly anticipated debut at the Met Gala, attending for the first time and turning heads alongside her partner, Eboni Nichols. The iconic rapper and actress donned a mesmerizing Thom Browne gown as she graced the event’s distinctive green and white carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Nichols, her longtime partner, also stunned in a complementary Browne ensemble.

Latifah described her gown as “bird of paradise,” highlighting its intricate handmade craftsmanship. She expressed her hope that people will study the dress for its beauty and artistry. Browne himself elaborated on Latifah’s look on Instagram, revealing the design featured a black peau de soie gathered coat tipped with raffia and bugle bead fray over a sequined square-shouldered dress. Raffia, satin stitch chiffon, and bullion embroidery created a striking representation of birds of paradise.

Nichols’ outfit was equally impressive, featuring an hourglass coat combining a Chesterfield, sportcoat, and a pleated skirt made of layered ribbon. The elegant checks and appliqué on her dress added complexity to the monochromatic black-and-white theme.

The Met Gala 2024 theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” focused on fashion’s impermanence and renewal, using nature as a metaphor. The dress code, “The Garden of Time,” drew inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 novel, depicting a count and countess witnessing their extraordinary garden overtaken by an encroaching mob.

During her Vogue interview with La La Anthony, Queen Latifah credited Nichols for advising her about the iconic staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Despite this challenge, Latifah felt elated with her experience at the Met Gala, expressing gratitude to Browne for his elegant designs.

Many other celebrities graced the event, including Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Venus and Serena Williams, and Cardi B. Each attendee brought their unique flair to the annual first Monday in May event, contributing to the dazzling display of haute couture.
