Controversy surrounds Prince’s visa application over drug use claims
A US judge has ordered to hand over the immigration papers of Prince Harry, following concerns raised about his visa application. The Duke is facing scrutiny after admitting to drug use in his memoir, “Spare,” leading to questions about the accuracy of his visa application.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, initiated the case, arguing that the release of Harry’s immigration papers would clarify whether he misrepresented his past drug use. They contend that if Harry lied on his visa application, he could be in violation of US federal law and could lose his immigration status.
However, lawyers for the US government have argued that Harry’s claims in his book are not sufficient proof that he actually used drugs. The Department for Homeland Security (DHS) has also asserted that making Harry’s documents public would violate his privacy rights.
Despite the DHS’s privacy concerns, Judge Carl Nichols has requested the department to provide more detailed arguments for their privacy claim. He also asked them to explain the potential harm that could result from the release of Harry’s immigration forms.
The Heritage Foundation has accused the US government of giving preferential treatment to celebrities, suggesting that Harry’s public disclosures about his private life have forfeited his right to privacy. They argue that releasing his visa application is in the public interest.
The Biden administration’s lawyers have rejected the claim of special treatment, maintaining that they are following standard procedures. Judge Nichols has given DHS until March 21 to provide additional information before making a decision on the release of the documents.
This development comes amid speculation from former President Donald Trump, who suggested that he would revoke Harry’s US residency if he were to win a second term. Trump criticized Harry for “betraying the Queen” and stated that he would not protect him.
