Sports and adventure titles surge in March as new releases dominate PlayStation Store charts

Sony has unveiled March 2025’s top downloads on the PlayStation Store, with new releases MLB The Show 25 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows powering to the top of the PS5 charts in the United States and Europe, respectively. The figures reflect a strong appetite for both sports simulations and high-octane adventure titles among PlayStation users last month.

In North America, MLB The Show 25 claimed the top spot as baseball fans geared up for the new Major League season. Not far behind, Assassin’s Creed Shadows secured second place, demonstrating Ubisoft’s continued dominance in the action-adventure genre. Split Fiction, a new narrative-driven thriller, followed closely, taking third.

Europeans, however, preferred blades over bats. Assassin’s Creed Shadows sliced its way to number one, while Split Fiction also charted high, securing second place. EA SPORTS FC 25, the ever-popular football simulator, rounded out the top three.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds performed strongly on both continents, landing fourth on the PS5 charts in the US and EU. WWE 2K25 proved a hit with wrestling fans, ranking fifth in the US and seventh in Europe, while Minecraft continued to enjoy long-lasting appeal, appearing in both regions’ top ten.

Sports titles dominated the US chart: EA SPORTS Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K25, EA SPORTS FC 25, and EA SPORTS College Football 25 all featured in the top ranks, underlining the genre’s widespread popularity. Meanwhile, tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege retained its staying power, ranking sixth in the US and fifth in Europe.

The supernatural horror title Phasmophobia made a surprise appearance in the European top 15, while Deadside and The First Berserker: Khazan cracked both regional lists, the latter bringing a brutal fantasy brawler experience to PS5 players.

Among returning favourites, Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 continued their reign near the top, with Gran Turismo 7 racing into the top 10 in both territories.

In the lower half of the PS5 rankings, nostalgic franchises also made an impact. Mortal Kombat 1 and Mortal Kombat 11 both charted in Europe, while BLEACH Rebirth of Souls, inspired by the beloved anime series, landed in the US top 15.

Though PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play download figures were not included in this summary, Sony confirmed that updates across all platforms were posted on the official PlayStation Blog.

The March chart signals strong momentum for new releases and franchises with enduring fanbases. With summer game announcements and showcase events on the horizon, April’s downloads could look very different.
