The Pakistan elections 2024 unfolded amidst low voter turnout, insufficient mobilization, and episodes of violence, while certain political parties enticed voters with incentives in specific regions.
Violence, allegations of election rigging, and other systemic issues have emerged in local media as the count of Pakistan’s election results progresses. Disruptions and complications marred the voting process, according to local reports. The Dawn highlighted that only a few voters managed to swiftly enter and exit polling stations. Many others found their polling stations had not opened by 3 pm.

The shutdown of cellular services prevented voters from verifying their National Identity Card (NIC) numbers, further complicating the situation. Many expressed their frustration, citing such inconveniences as a norm in Pakistan, indicating a sense of resignation towards the flawed execution of what should be a straightforward democratic process.
A significant number of voters chose to abstain from voting, disillusioned by the chaotic electoral environment. Unlike the usual celebratory atmosphere of Pakistani elections, the 2024 elections lacked enthusiasm, as reported by The Dawn.
In Lahore, where prominent Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) candidates contested, efforts were made to encourage voter turnout by providing food and transport. Similarly, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) offered incentives in areas where they held a strong presence.
The voting experience in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan starkly contrasted, with low turnout amid ongoing violence. Tribal area residents participated for the first time post-merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, experiencing a peaceful yet subdued polling day amidst a few violent incidents.
Early results indicate a slight lead for PTI-affiliated candidates, closely followed by PMLN and PPP, with official counts commencing nearly 12 hours post-poll closure. The election faced criticism for the suspension of mobile services and violence, which led to allegations of “political engineering.” The military reported at least 12 fatalities and 39 injuries nationwide due to election-related violence.
