Roman Kemp, host of the Capital Breakfast Show, finds himself under fire as disgruntled listeners file complaints with Ofcom over what they deem as “damaging” comments made during a recent episode.

The 30-year-old presenter and his co-hosts, including former BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark and new This Morning host Sian Welby, faced backlash for their mockery of a small business called Chocolate Moments. The business gained viral attention for its innovative “Bar of Crisps,” a chocolate bar filled with crisps.

During the show, the hosts questioned the legitimacy of Chocolate Moments and openly mocked its website. Sian Welby expressed scepticism, suggesting that the business might be a “scam” and raising doubts about its popularity.

“Has it already failed? Is it bankruptcy already?” she questioned, adding, “It says it’s all out of stock. Do you think it’s ever been in stock?” The hosts further joked about the website’s appearance, insinuating that it looked like it had been “made by a child” and speculating that the business might be operated from a garage.

The owner of Chocolate Moments, Maria Antoniou, shared a clip on Instagram capturing her shock at the disparaging comments made by the Capital Breakfast team. Expressing concern over the impact on her business, Maria stated, “So many have said how triggering the comments, cackling, and bullying behaviour is, so I’ve added in a warning.”

Despite the backlash from Maria’s followers, an apology from Capital for the comments is yet to be received. The situation escalated when it was revealed that 100 complaints were lodged with Ofcom regarding Roman Kemp, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby’s comments on Capital Breakfast.

In a statement to Entertainment Daily, Ofcom addressed the nature of the complaints, noting that the presenters’ remarks about the product, specifically the insinuation that the business website was a con, were perceived as potentially damaging. The controversy surrounding the show raises questions about the responsibility of media personalities and their impact on the businesses they choose to critique.
