BST Hyde Park erupts as Olivia Rodrigo brings out Ed Sheeran for a surprise duet before Glasto

It was a sun-drenched night of sheer pop euphoria as Olivia Rodrigo lit up BST Hyde Park — and stunned her fans by bringing out Ed Sheeran for a surprise acoustic duet.

The 22-year-old Grammy-winning star pulled off one of the biggest shock moments of the summer so far, just two days before she headlines Glastonbury, when she invited Ed onstage to perform his beloved hit The A Team.

Dressed in a shimmering black sequinned leotard, Olivia kicked off her headline set with explosive energy, ripping through a mix of angsty anthems and emotional bangers. But it was Sheeran’s cameo in the final act of the show that sent the 65,000-strong crowd into hysteria.

“One of the best songwriters of all time,” Olivia gushed as Ed strolled onstage with a guitar slung over his shoulder. The pair sat side by side, blending voices and strings in a stripped-back moment that brought the park to a standstill.

Sheeran, 34, had been watching the show from the side of the stage before stepping into the spotlight. His appearance sparked deafening cheers — the kind reserved for true pop royalty — as fans scrambled to capture the moment on their phones.

The star-studded audience included James Corden, who stood next to Olivia’s actor boyfriend Louis Partridge, and Sabrina Carpenter, who is set to take the same BST stage next week.

Organisers pulled out all the stops to transform Olivia’s backstage area into a wildflower-filled sanctuary, allowing her to decompress before powering through a three-act set packed with hits like Deja Vu, Traitor, and Vampire.

The encore — featuring Good 4 U and Get Him Back — brought the night to a euphoric close. Olivia then left the venue surrounded by a ten-car convoy, capping off one of her most ambitious performances yet.

Sheeran is no stranger to surprise appearances — in recent years, he’s popped up alongside artists as diverse as Limp Bizkit, Stormzy, and Taylor Swift. But his onstage connection with Olivia felt authentic, with the duo clearly enjoying every note.

Rodrigo’s journey from Disney starlet to chart-dominating pop icon has been nothing short of meteoric. After first gaining fame in Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Olivia broke out with her viral piano ballad All I Want, which led to a major record deal — but on her own terms, rejecting the typical Disney pipeline.

Everything changed in January 2021 with the release of Drivers License. The emotional ballad smashed streaming records, shot to No. 1 globally, and turned her into the defining voice of Gen Z heartbreak.

Her debut album, Sour, followed that May, spawning platinum hits like Good 4 U and Deja Vu, with critical acclaim pouring in. Praise came from icons including Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, and David Byrne.

With 46 million monthly Spotify listeners, 14 Grammy nominations, and now a prime slot at Glastonbury Festival, Olivia is no longer just a rising star — she’s a certified headliner.

And judging by her explosive BST Hyde Park set — and that show-stopping moment with Ed Sheeran — she’s only just getting started.
