Noel Gallagher warns Arsenal loss could impact their Premier League title race
Arsenal suffered a major setback at Wembley after losing the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City, and Noel Gallagher has warned the defeat could have serious consequences for their title ambitions.
The Gunners entered Sunday’s final full of confidence, believing they would secure the trophy. Instead, Pep Guardiola’s side emerged victorious, with Nico O’Reilly scoring twice to hand Manchester City the win and bring Arsenal’s hopes of lifting silverware in that competition to an end.
The result also extended Mikel Arteta’s wait for a second major trophy as Arsenal manager. Now in his sixth year in charge, Arteta has not added to his previous success, and this latest defeat may prove to be a significant moment in the club’s season.
Despite the loss, Arsenal remain in a strong position in the Premier League. They sit nine points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table with seven games left to play. The team is also still competing in both the Champions League and the FA Cup, where they have reached the quarter-finals.

However, Gallagher believes the impact of the Wembley defeat could go beyond just missing out on the trophy. Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, the Manchester City fan suggested that Arsenal had placed great importance on the final.
He said the players must have viewed the match as a key opportunity, particularly as it would have been the first trophy for the current team. According to him, losing the final has now given others the chance to criticise Arsenal once again.
Gallagher claimed that the defeat has reopened familiar criticisms, with people now able to label the team as “chokers and bottlers” again. He warned that such narratives could have an effect on the players in crucial moments later in the season.
Looking ahead, he suggested that when Arsenal face matches they must win in the coming weeks, the pressure could expose weaknesses. He added that the team is “used to choking,” implying that past experiences could influence their performances during decisive fixtures.
The Carabao Cup final defeat also ended Arsenal’s hopes of winning four trophies this season. While they remain in contention for other honours, the loss represents a missed opportunity to secure early silverware.
Manchester City, meanwhile, benefited from the victory, with Guardiola once again getting the better of his former assistant Arteta. The win not only delivered another trophy for City but also kept them within reach of Arsenal in the league standings.
With seven matches remaining, the title race is still open, even though Arsenal hold a significant points advantage. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether they can maintain their lead or if City can close the gap.
Gallagher’s comments highlight the potential psychological impact of the defeat. While Arsenal remain in control of their own destiny, the pressure of the run-in combined with external criticism could become a factor.
As the Premier League season approaches its final stages, Arsenal will need to respond quickly and ensure that the disappointment at Wembley does not affect their performances. The focus now shifts to whether they can maintain their form and avoid any slip-ups in the decisive matches ahead.
