Jewish leaders express disappointment as Netanyahu prioritises evangelicals over community ties

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has chosen not to meet with leaders of major American Jewish organisations during his week-long visit to the United States, a decision that has left many Jewish figures feeling snubbed and frustrated.

Netanyahu arrived in Washington, D.C., on Sunday to meet with US President Donald Trump, as well as top administration officials. While he also held discussions with Evangelical Christian leaders, two senior Jewish organisation heads confirmed that they were not granted an audience, breaking a long-standing diplomatic tradition.

“We were stunned and disappointed,” said one senior Jewish leader. “We have worked tirelessly for Israel since October 7, raising billions in aid and lobbying for support at every level. Yet, Netanyahu won’t even sit with us.”

Another Jewish leader revealed that Netanyahu planned to meet with younger Jewish figures but added, “While that’s great, established leaders also deserve this dialogue—Israel would benefit from it.”

For decades, Israeli prime ministers have upheld the unofficial protocol of meeting with Jewish leadership when travelling abroad. Many now see Netanyahu’s decision as a missed opportunity to unify Jewish communities at a critical moment.

As tensions rise, the big question remains—is Netanyahu shifting his priorities, or is this a deliberate snub of the Jewish establishment?
