As international mediators push for a truce, Israel’s prime minister insists on completing military objectives in Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has affirmed that an offensive on Rafah, the southern city in Gaza, will proceed regardless of the outcome of renewed truce efforts with Hamas. Netanyahu, speaking in Jerusalem, emphasized that Israel’s military goals must be fully achieved, stating, “We will enter Rafah and eliminate the Hamas battalions there—with or without a deal, in order to achieve total victory.” This stance underscores the complex dynamics at play as international efforts, including those by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, seek to mediate a ceasefire.
Blinken, who is actively involved in facilitating discussions, stressed the urgency of a ceasefire agreement that would ensure the safe return of Israeli hostages.
