Meghan Markle opens up about her early mornings, school drop-offs and writing notes in her kids’ lunch boxes.
Meghan Markle has given a rare glimpse into the early hours of life in the Sussex household, revealing her morning routine as a mum to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In a candid chat with friend and entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima, the Duchess shared how her days begin well before sunrise and are packed with parenting duties before the clock even hits 9am.
“It all starts at 6:30am,” Meghan said, explaining how she’s up early to prepare for the school rush. “I wish I could say I wake up and meditate — I don’t do that,” she joked. “I have the monitors on so I can hear both of the kids.”
Meghan, who lives in Montecito, California, with Prince Harry and their two children, detailed how the household springs into action around 7am. “They get up at 7am, so I give myself a little time to either put on workout clothes, brush my teeth, get them up, get them dressed, get them downstairs, make breakfast… and if I haven’t done their lunch boxes the night before, then do that.”

Her mornings don’t end there. Archie and Lilibet attend different schools, which Meghan described as “a big circuit.” On days when she handles the school run herself, she’s often not back home until 9am — only then diving into her packed schedule of meetings and projects.
Despite the early starts and busy pace, Meghan’s tone remained upbeat and grounded. “That’s the morning,” she said with a laugh. “That gets you to 9am.”
When meetings overlap with the school run, the couple relies on help. “On other days, I’ll get them all set and then our amazing nanny — who’s been with us for five years — she’ll take them to school for us.”
Her comments offer a rare, unfiltered look into daily life beyond royal titles, philanthropic appearances and high-profile media ventures. While the Duchess of Sussex has often been the subject of headlines and royal scrutiny, her reflections showed a quieter, more relatable side — that of a working mother navigating the everyday juggle of parenthood.
Meghan’s remarks were made during a conversation that touched on motherhood, career balance, and maintaining a sense of personal well-being amid public life. Though brief, the insights sparked interest among fans and media alike, with many praising her hands-on parenting and authenticity.
The chat also highlighted Meghan’s commitment to staying connected with her children, even in the small gestures — from morning cuddles to notes tucked into lunch bags. Her ability to switch from mum mode to business meetings by 9am shows the behind-the-scenes energy that rarely makes headlines but defines her family’s everyday rhythm.
Though not every morning looks the same — especially with a sick child, like Archie staying home with a cold — Meghan’s devotion to creating a loving, structured environment for her children remains constant.
As the Duchess continues to split her time between family life, philanthropic work, and business ventures, her early morning routine offers a snapshot of the grounded, maternal force behind her public role.
