The actor, famous for his role in “You Can Count on Me,” narrated the dream that hauntingly spelled out his condition. Describing the revelation, he expressed, “It was just like, ‘You have a brain tumor.’ It wasn’t even a voice. It was just pure knowledge, ‘You have a brain tumor, and you have to deal with it immediately.'”

The ensuing ‘sense of doom’ propelled Ruffalo to consult a doctor, leading to a scan that uncovered a ‘golf ball-sized’ mass. Fortunately, the tumor was benign but posed considerable risks, intensifying the challenge of breaking the news to his wife.

“I couldn’t tell Sunny. She had the birth plan, she did the yoga, she had the doula,” confessed Ruffalo. His decision to delay disclosure until after the birth of their first child, Keen, added another layer of complexity to an already fraught situation.

“When I told Sunny about it, first she thought I was joking. And then she just burst into tears and said, ‘I always knew you were gonna die young,'” he recounted.

The surgery, carrying a 70 percent risk of hearing loss in the left ear and a 20 percent chance of facial nerve damage, left Ruffalo with a temporarily paralyzed face. Despite the lingering effects, Ruffalo reflects on the ordeal, stating, “My hearing being ‘taken’ is something I can live with, given I was able to ‘keep the face’ and ‘be [a] father to [his] kids’.”

Mark Ruffalo, now a father of three, emphasizes the importance of family resilience amid health challenges. This raw and unfiltered confession on the Smartless podcast sheds light on the actor’s journey, proving that even superheroes face battles beyond the big screen.
