Francisco Trincão’s resurgence at sporting Lisbon has sparked Manchester United’s transfer interest.

Trincão struggled to make an impact during his loan spell at Wolves, managing just three goals and one assist in 30 appearances. However, under Amorim’s guidance at Sporting, the Portuguese winger has rediscovered his form, playing a crucial role in their Liga Portugal title push.

His improvement can be traced back to his time at Barcelona, where he played alongside Lionel Messi. In February 2021, Trincão scored a dramatic late winner against Real Betis after receiving a key piece of advice from Messi. Initially hesitant in front of goal, the young forward chose to pass rather than shoot—prompting the Argentine legend to urge him to be more decisive in attack. The next time he had a chance, Trincão took the shot and sealed the victory.

His former Braga coach Abel Ferreira believes Trincão is more than just a winger, even comparing his playing style to Xavi and Andrés Iniesta. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Ferreira said:

“Francisco is not a traditional winger who sticks to the touchline. He thrives between the lines, much like Xavi or Iniesta in a 4-3-3 formation.”
