At 76, Lulu shocks fans by confirming her secret sexual encounter with David Bowie
Pop legend Lulu has stunned fans with a revelation she has kept hidden for decades. The 76-year-old singer, best known for her Eurovision hit Boom Bang-a-Bang, confirmed for the very first time that she slept with David Bowie.
The Scottish star had long hinted at a close bond with Bowie during their collaborations in the 1970s but had never publicly admitted their relationship turned physical. Speaking candidly, Lulu declared: “I have never said, ‘yes, I had sex with David Bowie’ until now. This is the first time.”
Her admission came with a mixture of humour and raw honesty. She confessed the encounter itself was clouded in alcohol and memory. “I think I was slightly p***ed. I can’t really remember,” she admitted. “Only to say that he got me there and we’re in his room, and you know, we performed the acts. I don’t have to go into bloody details because I can’t actually remember details — but I wouldn’t share them anyway. I do have boundaries.”
Despite the hazy recollection, Lulu insisted the pair had shared a “deep connection”. She described Bowie as the “coolest dude on the block,” emphasising the unique energy he brought into her life at a time when both careers were intertwined.
Their professional partnership was equally memorable. In 1974, Lulu recorded a cover of Bowie’s haunting classic The Man Who Sold the World. Working together on the track, she said, was “incredible” and reflected a moment when Bowie’s creative powers were at their peak.
But Bowie’s cutting honesty also left its mark. Lulu recalled how, during a stay at a French château, the then-emaciated rock star leaned close and told her bluntly: “I think you could lose a bit of weight.” The remark, she said, “crushed” her.
Her relationship with Bowie later took her to New York, where she encountered a darker side of his world. “He was doing a lot of drugs,” she revealed. The intensity of that scene frightened her and ultimately marked a turning point in their connection.
Bowie, whose ever-shifting personas defined rock history, died in 2016 at the age of 69 after a private battle with cancer. For Lulu, his death closed a chapter that had shaped both her professional and personal life in ways fans had only guessed until now.
This new confession reframes the decades-old rumours surrounding their relationship. Fans had long speculated on the chemistry between the two stars, fuelled by their matching fiery red hair and the intimate energy captured in photographs of the era. Now, with Lulu’s frank admission, speculation has ended.
Her words carry both shock and poignancy — a reminder of the intoxicating highs and destructive shadows that surrounded Bowie at his peak, and of the vulnerabilities of a young singer caught in his orbit.
Even as she bares this long-kept secret, Lulu insists on dignity. The details, she says, will remain private. But her revelation has already set social media alight, reigniting fascination with one of rock’s most enigmatic figures and the woman who finally confirmed their intimacy.
