Vanessa Romao, 37, who frequently visits the area, admitted she was rattled by the news. “It’s quite a bustling road, and I come here on weekends for some town action,” she said. “You don’t imagine something like this happening.”
Other locals shared similar sentiments, describing the area as typically safe. Stephen Smith, 71, who moved to Lowestoft from London, expressed his shock. “This is a pretty safe place, so hearing about something like this is really unsettling.” Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, agreed. “There’s some petty crime, but never anything this serious. It’s unheard of.”
However, not everyone was surprised. Jackie Arthurs, 66, remarked bluntly: “It doesn’t shock me because of the area.”
The arrested man has been taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre, where he remains in custody for questioning. Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident, confirming that the suspect and victim knew each other.
Suffolk Police have launched an appeal for information, urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward. The case reference is 37/11396/25.
As the investigation unfolds, the people of Lowestoft are left grappling with an unsettling reality—one that has shattered the calm of their seaside town.
