Police investigate after Logan Carter, 12, died in playground roundabout incident linked to e-bike
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after 12-year-old Logan Carter died in a tragic playground incident in Winsford, Cheshire.
Police believe an e-bike may have been used to propel a children’s roundabout moments before Logan suffered fatal injuries on Friday evening. Officers said they were called to the park on Ledward Street by the North West Ambulance Service at around 6.11pm, but despite emergency efforts, the schoolboy could not be saved.
Cheshire Police confirmed the teenager was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation while detectives pursue multiple lines of inquiry.
A spokesperson for the force said: “As part of this, officers are exploring reports that an e-bike was used to propel a children’s roundabout in the park at around the time of the incident occurring.”
The roundabout where the tragedy unfolded has been taped off while forensic teams examine the scene. Floral tributes have been laid nearby, with friends, neighbours and classmates visiting the park to pay their respects.

“Logan was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, cousin and friend to many,” they said. “Everyone wanted to be where Logan was. He was a little boy who was so full of life and wanted to make everyone laugh. He made every day worth living.
“Logan was everyone’s therapy person, their calm, and he will be missed more than we can ever put into words. We are taking comfort from the words of support we have received whilst we take time to come to terms with the untimely loss of our blue-eyed boy.”
The family also released a photograph of Logan smiling proudly while holding a large fish on a sunny day out — a picture they said captured his love for the outdoors and his bright spirit.
A GoFundMe campaign launched in Logan’s memory has already raised close to £9,000 in less than 24 hours, with a target of £13,000 to support his grieving family. Hundreds of donors left messages of sympathy, describing Logan as “a beautiful soul taken too soon”.
The news has sent shockwaves through the Winsford community, with parents and campaigners raising urgent questions about the dangers of e-bikes in public spaces. The incident comes amid wider national debate about regulating e-bikes, particularly after reports of them being linked to accidents and reckless use in parks and on roads.
Cheshire Police have appealed for witnesses, urging anyone who was in the park at the time or who may have video footage to come forward. Detectives are piecing together the moments leading up to the incident, with particular focus on how the e-bike was being used.
While the investigation continues, Logan’s school and community have pledged to support his family. Teachers described him as a “bright, cheerful and kind-hearted boy” who will be deeply missed by classmates and staff.
The tragedy has also prompted calls for safety reviews at playgrounds. Local councillors are expected to meet with police and community leaders to discuss concerns about e-bike misuse and playground safety standards.
For Logan’s family, the focus remains on remembering a boy who, in their words, “made every day worth living”. Their tribute echoed the grief of an entire town still reeling from the sudden and devastating loss
