Arne Slot set to take over at Liverpool following an agreement with Feyenoord, with Jürgen Klopp praising the move as stepping into the best job at the world’s best club

Liverpool Football Club has reached an agreement to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager, following successful negotiations with his current club, Feyenoord. The deal, valued at €9 million (£7.7 million) plus an additional €2 million in add-ons, comes as Slot had two years remaining on his contract with the Dutch club.

The announcement came shortly after Slot expressed his enthusiasm about replacing Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool, highlighting his ambition ahead of Feyenoord’s recent match against Go Ahead Eagles. Klopp, who has had a transformative impact at Liverpool, described the managerial position at the club as the “best job in the world at the best club in the world,” endorsing Slot’s potential appointment.

Liverpool acted decisively to secure Slot, who has been on the radar of several top European clubs due to his tactical approach and recent successes in the Netherlands, including winning the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup. Slot’s philosophy aligns closely with Klopp’s dynamic style, making him a fitting successor to continue Liverpool’s competitive edge in European football.

Negotiations between Liverpool and Slot’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, progressed smoothly, indicating that personal terms for Slot are nearly finalized. The official announcement of Slot as Liverpool manager is expected soon, with several members of his current coaching staff at Feyenoord anticipated to join him at Anfield. These include assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff, head of performance Ruben Peeters, and analyst Etiënne Reijnen, pending work permit approvals.

Klopp has spoken highly of Slot, noting his strong leadership and effective coaching style. “If he is the one, then I like that he really wants the job. I like the way his team plays football, and all the things I hear about him is he’s a good guy,” Klopp remarked, expressing optimism about the future of the club under Slot’s guidance.

This managerial transition marks a significant moment for Liverpool as they aim to build on Klopp’s legacy and continue their pursuit of domestic and international success with Slot at the helm.
