Fresh affidavit surfaces, delaying defamation trial’s conclusion
Network Ten has made an urgent move to reopen its defence in the Bruce Lehrmann defamation trial. They filed a request for an emergency court hearing. This hearing aims to consider new evidence. Justice Michael Lee will oversee this request on Tuesday evening.
Just days before the expected judgment in Lehrmann’s lawsuit against Network Ten and Lisa Wilkinson, this development occurs. The judgment was due on Thursday morning. Lehrmann accused them of defamation following a Project interview with Brittany Higgins. She claimed she was raped in Parliament House. Lehrmann, identified by implication, denies these allegations.

The controversy extends to Lehrmann’s public statements. He dismissed claims made by a former Spotlight producer, Taylor Auerbach, as false. Auerbach has since initiated defamation proceedings against Lehrmann.
This last-minute evidence submission suggests the trial’s judgment might face delays. The trial, which concluded three months ago, examined over 15,000 pages of transcripts and numerous exhibits.
This case has captivated public attention, involving high-profile media outlets, legal battles, and allegations of serious misconduct within political circles.
