Lawyers to rally in Delhi courts, demanding justice for Kejriwal
In a significant move, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) legal wing has declared plans for widespread protests across all district courts in Delhi. This action comes in response to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Slated for March 27, advocates aim to gather at 12:30 PM in a unified stand against what they perceive as an unjust arrest.
Advocate Sanjeev Nasiar, the State President of AAP’s Legal Cell and the Vice-Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi, confirmed this development. In a statement that highlights the legal community’s solidarity, Nasiar remarked, “The way Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested shows there is a conspiracy against him. Therefore, we, the lawyer community, have decided to hold a massive protest tomorrow at 12:30 PM. We will assemble in our courts and voice our protest. We stand with Arvind Kejriwal.”
This protest is scheduled to take place in several key locations, including Patiala House Court, Dwarka Court, Saket Court, Karkardoona Court, Tis Hazari Court, and Rouse Avenue Court. It reflects a significant pushback from the legal fraternity against Kejriwal’s detention by the ED.
Arvind Kejriwal found himself in the ED’s custody following his arrest on March 21. His legal battle continues as his plea challenging the arrest and the subsequent remand order by the trial court is expected to be heard by the Delhi High Court on the same day as the planned protest.
The events leading up to this moment began on March 22 when Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court ordered Kejriwal’s remand to ED custody until March 28. This decision has sparked a wave of support for Kejriwal, culminating in the planned protest by AAP’s legal wing.
