King Charles shares a tender moment with Prince Louis at Easter service

Members of the British royal family gathered in Windsor on Easter Sunday for the annual Easter Matins service at St George’s Chapel, where a brief interaction between King Charles and his grandchildren drew attention.

The extended family arrived for the service, with many walking to the chapel. Among those attending were Prince William and the Princess of Wales, accompanied by their three children, as well as Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Edward and his son James, Earl of Wessex, Lady Sarah Chatto, and Peter Phillips with his fiancée Harriet Sperling.

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived separately, travelling by car. When they reached the chapel, other members of the family were already gathered outside to welcome them.

As King Charles made his way into St George’s Chapel, he greeted his family. He blew a kiss to Prince William before reaching out to his grandchildren, including Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.

The interaction took place as the family prepared to enter the service, and it was captured on camera as part of the wider coverage of the day.

The Easter service marked the first public appearance of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in 2026. Their previous appearance had been on Christmas Day in 2025, when they also attended a church service.

For Prince Louis, the occasion was only his second time attending Easter Sunday services in Windsor. He had previously attended in 2023.

The children were dressed formally for the service. Prince Louis wore a suit and tie, similar to his older brother Prince George. Their light blue ties matched those worn by their father, Prince William.

After the service, the family departed the chapel together. During this time, Prince Louis was seen shaking hands with the Dean of Windsor, Christopher Cocksworth.

The gathering brought together several members of the royal family for the Easter occasion, continuing a long-standing tradition of attending church services in Windsor.

The day also prompted discussion about family activities that may have taken place earlier. It is possible that the children participated in an Easter egg hunt at their home, Forest Lodge, in Windsor, where the family moved in the autumn.

In previous years, Prince William and the Princess of Wales have spoken about Easter activities involving their children. In 2018, they said that Prince George and Princess Charlotte had taken part in an Easter egg hunt, although it is not clear whether this is a regular tradition.

The events of the day focused on the Easter service and the presence of multiple generations of the royal family. The interaction between King Charles and his grandchildren formed part of the wider moments observed as the family gathered for the occasion.

The service marked another public appearance for the royal family, with attention centred on their interactions as they arrived and departed from the chapel.
