Despite their horse’s underwhelming performance, King Charles and Queen Camilla enjoy a festive royal ascot adorned with celebrity glamour and vibrant outfits

Royal Ascot’s third day saw King Charles and Queen Camilla in high spirits despite their horse, Gilded Water, finishing 12th in the King George V Stakes, failing to live up to expectations. The royal couple, donned in elegant attire, chuckled through the day’s events, with Queen Camilla stunning in a Dior white silk crepe dress and a matching Philip Treacy hat adorned with a jade and diamond brooch from Queen Elizabeth’s collection.

While Gilded Water’s race did not yield the hoped-for victory, the day was not short on glamour and excitement. Ladies Day at Ascot showcased an array of dazzling outfits and eccentric headgear, with milliner Tracy Rose sporting an oversized orange creation, and another attendee opting for a hat adorned with My Little Pony figures, adding a playful touch to the event.

Among the star-studded attendees were opera singer Katherine Jenkins, TV personalities Charlotte Hawkins and Nick Knowles, as well as West Ham owner David Sullivan accompanied by Real Housewives of Cheshire star Ampika Pickston. Football legend Michael Owen brought his Love Island star daughter Gemma, adding to the celebrity buzz at the event.

The Royal Box was graced by Camilla’s ex-husband Andrew Parker-Bowles, along with other distinguished guests including Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Sophie, and various members of the extended royal family. The presence of Churchill’s grandson, Sir Nicholas Soames, added a historical dimension to the gathering.

Despite the horse racing disappointment, King Charles and Queen Camilla remained in good humour, participating in the traditional Royal Procession and delighting in the pageantry of Ascot. The King was seen engaging in jovial conversation, sharing a laugh with his wife and other attendees throughout the afternoon.

Security measures were notably tight, with snipers monitoring the venue and sniffer dogs deployed strategically. The day culminated with the presentation of the Gold Cup, where King Charles and Queen Camilla jointly participated, signalling the ceremonial high point of the event despite the earlier setback on the track.

As the races concluded, attention turned to England’s Euro 2024 match against Denmark, with screens broadcasting the football match across all enclosures. Attendees in the Windsor Enclosure swapped formal attire for England football jerseys, while those in more formal areas embraced St George’s flag-themed accessories in support of the national team.
