Katie Taylor outpoints Amanda Serrano in a technical ten-round battle to win their trilogy 3-0
Katie Taylor outmanoeuvred Amanda Serrano over 10 tactical rounds at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, claiming a majority decision win and sweeping one of boxing’s greatest modern rivalries 3-0.
Returning to the scene of their trailblazing 2022 clash, Taylor retained her undisputed junior welterweight crown with scores of 97–93 on two cards and a 95–95 draw on the third. Though less ferocious than their first two encounters, the bout was rich in strategy, footwork, and finesse, offering a cerebral capstone to a trilogy that helped redefine women’s boxing.
“I thought I was boxing very smart, very well, and she wasn’t catching me with much tonight,” Taylor said afterwards. “It’s always going to be a very close contest between me and Amanda.”
From the opening bell, Taylor refused to be drawn into the slugfests that had defined their past, instead circling off the back foot, landing quick combinations, and frustrating Serrano with movement and precision. Serrano, ever the aggressor, stalked her prey, but struggled to close the distance or land clean body work, failing to trap Taylor against the ropes where she’d had previous success.
In a fight built on faint margins, Taylor consistently edged the rounds. Her left hand scored repeatedly in the eighth and ninth, while Serrano’s best moment came in the sixth, when she landed a solid right at the bell. But even then, Taylor never looked rattled.
Both fighters showed signs of wear, not from this fight alone, but from the brutal physical cost of their trilogy. Taylor’s legs and timing, however, looked sharper. Her discipline in avoiding prolonged exchanges and commitment to in-and-out movement left Serrano chasing shadows.

“Thank you, Jesus. I needed a lot of help, a lot of strength today,” Taylor said, visibly moved. “I just want to thank Amanda Serrano. What an amazing fighter. We made history together, three times. It’s such a privilege to share the ring with her.”
This bout wasn’t just about the fighters—it marked a milestone for the sport. It headlined Madison Square Garden’s first all-women’s boxing card, a venue steeped in boxing lore. In 2022, Taylor and Serrano became the first women to headline there. On Friday, they did it again—this time surrounded by an all-female supporting cast.
Serrano, the Puerto Rican powerhouse and former unified featherweight champion, never stopped pushing forward. But in the ring’s chess match, it was Taylor—the Irish icon and Olympic gold medallist—who made the smarter moves.
With the win, Taylor improves to 25–1 and solidifies her legacy not only as one of the sport’s best technicians but also as one of its most important pioneers.
“I just thank God that my hand was raised again,” she said. “And I’m 3-0.”
The trilogy may not have ended in flames, but it burned with the quiet brilliance of two fighters who gave everything over three unforgettable battles.
