Despite a group stage loss to Australia, Katie Boulter’s straight-set win seals Britain’s place in the United Cup quarter-finals, where they’ll face Poland
Katie Boulter once again proved her early-season form as she led Great Britain to the United Cup quarter-finals, despite a final group-stage defeat to Australia. Boulter delivered a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Olivia Gadecki in the opening match, ensuring Britain’s progress even after losing the group’s final rubber 2-1 to the hosts.
With her dominant win, Boulter played a key role in advancing Britain to the next stage. Her straight-set success was all that was required after Britain’s earlier victory over Argentina. This performance kept Great Britain on track, with Boulter continuing her strong start to the 2025 season.
Following her singles victory, Boulter was spared the potential challenge of facing her fiancé, Alex De Minaur, in the mixed doubles. De Minaur had earlier won his match against Billy Harris, before teaming up with Gadecki for a doubles win. Despite the loss, it was not enough to prevent Britain from progressing.

Boulter, however, is undeterred: “I’ve got nothing to lose. She’s an incredible player, and I’m looking forward to testing my skills. I’ll go out swinging.”
The team’s progress to the last eight is a significant achievement, especially considering the withdrawal of Jack Draper due to a hip issue. Draper, who had been dealing with an injury, has since flown to Melbourne, where he is preparing for the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.
