Kate Middleton misses St Patrick’s Day Parade – sends heartfelt message as stand-in steps in The Princess of Wales honours Irish Guards tradition from afar as she recovers
Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales and honorary colonel of the Irish Guards, was unable to attend this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade as she recovers from surgery. However, she sent a touching video message to celebrate the regiment’s annual parade, expressing her pride and support for the Irish Guards.
In her absence, Lady Ghika, the wife of the regiment’s Major General Sir Christopher Ghika, stood in for Kate at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hants. Dressed in a plum coat dress, Lady Ghika carried out the tradition of presenting the Irish Guards’ mascot, Seamus the dog, with a shamrock.
Members of the Irish Guards raised their bearskin helmets into the air in a show of respect for Kate, who has a special connection with the regiment. Last year marked Kate’s first St Patrick’s Day Parade as honorary colonel, where she expressed her pride and commitment to the regiment.
Despite not being present, Kate’s message resonated with the Irish Guards as they celebrated their annual parade. The video shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram showcased the rehearsals for the parade, with members expressing their pride in being part of the Household Division regiment.
The Prince of Wales has previously spoken about the honour of being Colonel of the Irish Guards, and Kate has embraced her role with dedication and grace. Her absence from this year’s parade did not go unnoticed, and the Irish Guards showed their appreciation for her support and commitment to duty.
While recovering from surgery, Kate continues to fulfill her duties as honorary colonel and remains a strong advocate for the Irish Guards and their traditions. Her presence was missed at this year’s parade, but her heartfelt message and ongoing support were felt by all.
