Jessie J reveals breast cancer diagnosis and plans surgery after June 15 Wembley performance.
Jessie J has revealed she’s been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and will undergo surgery shortly after performing at Wembley Stadium this month.
In a raw and emotional video posted to Instagram, the 37-year-old singer opened up about her health struggles, telling fans: “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.”
The chart-topping star said she wanted to share the news to help process the diagnosis and support others facing similar battles. “I’m an open book,” she said. “It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse—that’s the bit that kills me.”
Despite the diagnosis, Jessie has confirmed she will still take the stage at Capital’s Summertime Ball at Wembley on Sunday, 15 June. She assured fans that she will return with new music following her surgery, making it clear that the diagnosis hasn’t dimmed her fighting spirit.
Born Jessica Cornish in London, the singer has endured multiple health challenges throughout her life. At just eight years old, she was diagnosed with a heart condition. At 18, she suffered a minor stroke. And in 2020, she temporarily lost her hearing.
Her resilience has become a defining part of her public persona. Now, she faces perhaps her greatest health battle yet.
The Price Tag and Domino singer also spoke about the power of connection and community during times of illness. “I know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories,” she said in the video, which has drawn thousands of messages of support.
She gave birth to her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, in 2023 after a difficult journey with fertility. In 2021, Jessie shared that she had miscarried, breaking the news to fans just hours before she was due to perform a show in Los Angeles. The moment, she said at the time, was one of the hardest of her life.
Since becoming a mother, Jessie has regularly posted about her joy and gratitude — and the challenges of motherhood. Her son, she said, gave her renewed purpose and strength.
That strength is evident again in how she’s confronting her latest diagnosis. “I’m doing okay,” she told her fans. “It’s been a lot, but I’ve had the right people around me, and I’ve had time to understand what’s next.”
The NHS urges women to consult their GP if they experience changes in their breasts or nipples, a lump or swelling in the breast or armpit, or persistent pain. Other signs include skin dimpling or redness, nipple discharge, and changes in breast size, shape, or appearance.
Jessie’s openness is already inspiring others. Her timeline has filled with messages from fans who have faced cancer or are currently undergoing treatment. For many, seeing a beloved artist speak so candidly offers a sense of solidarity and hope.
Though no one could have anticipated the gravity of her announcement, Jessie J remains a symbol of strength and authenticity in the entertainment world.
As she prepares to light up Wembley Stadium in just over a week, fans know they’re witnessing more than a performance — they’re seeing a woman standing tall in the face of one of life’s toughest challenges.
