Jack Draper smashes his racket in frustration before launching a stunning comeback win over Jenson Brooksby

Jack Draper powered into the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells with a straight-sets victory over Jenson Brooksby—but not before an emotional meltdown on court.

The British No.1 got off to a nightmare start, falling 3-0 behind in the opening set as Brooksby, returning from a long injury layoff, played with precision. Struggling to find his rhythm, Draper’s frustration boiled over when he went 4-2 down, slamming his racket to the ground in anger. The crowd murmured in shock, sensing the Brit was losing his grip on the match.

But that moment of fury seemed to ignite something in him. Draper immediately broke back, shifting the momentum in his favour. He clawed his way through a tense series of points before finally sealing the first set 7-5. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Draper staying composed during crucial rallies to secure a 6-4 victory.

Reflecting on his performance, Draper admitted it wasn’t his cleanest display but was proud of his resilience.

Brooksby is a tricky opponent who makes life difficult. I wasn’t playing my best, but I fought hard and found a way to win,” he told Sky Sports Tennis.

The victory sets up a huge showdown with American third seed Taylor Fritz in the fourth round.

Jamie Murray Reaches Historic Milestone

Elsewhere, British tennis veteran Jamie Murray achieved an incredible feat, becoming the first Briton to play 1,000 career doubles matches. The 39-year-old marked the occasion in style, teaming up with Adam Pavlasek to defeat Ariel Behar and Robert Galloway in a dramatic tie-break.

Speaking after the match, Murray reflected on his journey.

“Playing 1,000 matches is something I’m really proud of. It takes a lot to stay at this level for so long,” he said.

Sonay Kartal’s Unbelievable Run Continues

British underdog Sonay Kartal continued her fairytale run at Indian Wells, securing a shock straight-sets win over Polina Kudermetova. Kartal, who only entered the tournament as a lucky loser after Sloane Stephens withdrew, never expected to make it this far—so much so that she had to change hotels because she assumed she’d be eliminated early.

Her dream run has now landed her in the fourth round, where she faces world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff & Keys Cruise Through

Coco Gauff delivered a dominant performance against Maria Sakkari, winning 7-6(1), 6-2 to book her place in the last 16. The American star was briefly tested in the opening set but quickly took control, overpowering Sakkari with her aggressive baseline play.

Meanwhile, Australian Open champion Madison Keys survived a tense three-set battle against Elise Mertens, eventually prevailing 6-2, 6-7(8), 6-4.

With Draper’s next test against Fritz looming, all eyes will be on whether the British star can keep his emotions in check and continue his run at Indian Wells.
