Israel intensifies military operations in Gaza as Hamas remains defiant on hostage negotiations. Government officials hint at a full takeover of the strip, marking a drastic shift in strategy

Israel has intensified its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza, marking a significant Israel-Hamas conflict escalation as airstrikes and ground operations increase. Officials suggest a shift toward full control over the territory, setting the stage for a prolonged conflict.

Following the collapse of ceasefire talks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency meeting with Defense Minister Israel Katz and top security officials. The three-hour discussion concluded with a decision to escalate military action, marking a turning point in Israel’s approach to Hamas.

“There is no signal, no sign that Hamas is currently changing its position on the matter,” a senior official stated, reinforcing concerns that negotiations remain at an impasse.

Israeli forces have already begun expanding their operations, pushing further into the Netzarim Corridor—a strategic strip cutting through Gaza. Military sources describe this as “just the beginning” of an intensified offensive designed to pressure Hamas into surrendering hostages and abandoning control of the strip.

Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar (Likud) underlined Israel’s revised approach, stating, “What Hamas is experiencing from Israel is about to change with American backing. There is a clear shift in the current equation.”

Zohar further emphasised that Israel is determined to bring an end to Hamas’s reign over Gaza, leaving two possible outcomes: either the group surrenders its hostages and disarms, or Israel fully occupies the territory.

The situation remains volatile, with no signs of Hamas yielding to Israeli demands. As airstrikes rain down and ground forces advance, the region braces for a further escalation that could redefine the power balance in Gaza.
