The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against PTI leaders, including Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, over allegations related to the violent Islamabad protests
The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and 94 other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders. The warrants stem from their alleged involvement in the violent protests that took place in Islamabad on November 24, which resulted in at least 12 deaths.
The court’s decision came after PTI supporters clashed with security forces during the protest, demanding the release of their leader Imran Khan. The Islamabad protest had escalated after authorities launched a crackdown on the demonstrators, leading to widespread violence. In addition to the fatalities, many were injured, and significant damage occurred to public property.
According to sources within the judiciary, the charges against the PTI leaders include terrorism, incitement to violence, and destruction of public property. The court cited the seriousness of the charges as the reason for issuing non-bailable warrants, ensuring that those implicated in the violent events would face strict legal consequences.

However, legal experts suggest that their defence teams may seek to challenge the court’s decision through appeals. The PTI has strongly condemned the crackdown and continues to demand a thorough investigation into the deaths and injuries that occurred during the protests.
The case has heightened political tensions in Pakistan, with many critics accusing the government of using excessive force to suppress political opposition. Imran Khan and his supporters maintain that the crackdown was an attempt to stifle dissent and undermine PTI’s political activities.
The Islamabad ATC’s decision further complicates the already tense political situation, as PTI leaders, including Khan, have vowed to continue their fight for what they claim are the rights of the people and the rule of law.
The warrants are the latest in a series of legal and political challenges faced by PTI and its leadership. As Pakistan approaches the next general election, the actions of the judiciary and the government’s response to opposition protests will be key issues shaping the political landscape.
