Police appeal for witnesses after a thirty year old indian student dies following Worcester stabbing
A thirty year old man, identified locally as an Indian student from Haryana, has died in the United Kingdom after being stabbed during a street attack in Worcester. The man, named in Indian media reports as Vijay Kumar Sheoran from Charkhi Dadri district, suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital. West Mercia Police have launched a murder investigation and issued an appeal for information from anyone who may have witnessed the attack.
The incident took place early on Tuesday morning, twenty five November, when officers were called to Barbourne Road in Worcester at around four fifteen am. Police found the man with severe injuries, and he was immediately taken to hospital. Despite medical efforts, he died later the same day. According to a statement from West Mercia Police, five men were arrested on suspicion of murder and have since been released on bail as inquiries continue. A sixth man who had also been arrested on suspicion of murder has been released with no further action.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Holehouse, who is leading the investigation, expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and friends. He said that the police are pursuing extensive lines of inquiry to determine what happened and why the attack occurred. Officers will remain present on Barbourne Road over the weekend as part of the ongoing investigation. Holehouse reassured residents that the increased police presence is focused on evidence collection and that there is no reason for the public to feel alarmed.
The five men who remain on bail are continuing to cooperate with officers. Holehouse again urged anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward. He emphasised that even the smallest detail could help detectives understand the events that led to the man’s death. The appeal for information is aimed at local residents, motorists who may have passed through the area, and anyone who saw or heard anything unusual in the early hours of the morning.
As news of the incident reached India, it prompted an outpouring of grief in the victim’s home district. Charkhi Dadri MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan shared his condolences on social media, describing himself as deeply shocked and saddened by the young man’s death. He expressed sympathy for the family and called the incident an unbearable moment of grief. The lawmaker urged the Indian government to intervene without delay to ensure full support for the family, including the urgent repatriation of the student’s mortal remains to India.
Sangwan also appealed for a transparent and fair investigation, insisting that justice must be delivered and that those responsible should be held fully accountable. His message has been widely shared and has resonated with many who are concerned about the safety of Indian students abroad.
The case has drawn attention both in the United Kingdom and India, highlighting the vulnerability of international students living in unfamiliar environments. Worcester, a city known for its student population and relatively low crime rate, has been shaken by the incident. Local residents have expressed concern about the attack and are looking to the police for assurance and answers.
West Mercia Police continue to gather evidence, review CCTV footage, and speak to witnesses. The force has stressed that community cooperation is vital in solving the case and providing closure to the grieving family. The investigation remains active, and further updates are expected as inquiries progress.
As the family in Haryana awaits further clarity, many in both countries hope for swift progress in the case. The death of the young student has cast a shadow over the community in Worcester and has prompted renewed calls for greater safety measures for international students living in the United Kingdom
