SpiceJet apologizes as passenger endures traumatic experience on flight SG-268

A SpiceJet flight turned into a harrowing experience for a 37-year-old passenger who found himself trapped in the aircraft’s bathroom for almost the entire journey, leading to claims of injuries during the landing.

The passenger, seated in 14D, boarded Flight SG-268 from Mumbai to Bengaluru. Soon after takeoff, he entered the lavatory, only to realize that the door malfunctioned, leaving him unable to exit. As the flight approached its destination, the trapped passenger faced the ordeal of being in the bathroom during landing.

Flight attendants attempted to reassure the panicked passenger by sliding a note under the door. Upon landing at Kempegowda International Airport, engineers boarded the aircraft and broke down the door to free the passenger. The traumatized individual claimed to have suffered injuries during the landing, stating that medical assistance was lacking.

The passenger expressed his distress, mentioning that he was “thrown around” inside the toilet during landing, leading to injuries. Despite emerging with bruises and blurred vision, he alleged receiving no medical help after leaving the lavatory. SpiceJet issued an apology for the inconvenience.

In a statement, SpiceJet expressed regret and offered a full refund to the affected passenger. The airline asserted that the crew provided assistance and guidance throughout the incident. An engineer promptly opened the lavatory door upon arrival, and the passenger received immediate medical support, according to SpiceJet.

As the incident gains attention, questions arise about the airline’s procedures for ensuring passenger safety and well-being during unusual circumstances. SpiceJet faces scrutiny over the adequacy of its response and medical assistance provided to the passenger.
